Description

We cultivate a variety of Mint plants at our farm.

Varieties

  • Chocolate Mint – Narrow, pointed, dark green leaves. Has a low, bushy growth habit. Flavor is similar to the mint that is inside of chocolate mint candies, hence the name.
  • Ginger x Apple Mint – Large leaves and fuzzy stems. Similar to spearmint, but with a milder flavor. This is our preferred mint variety for infusing into water.
  • Thai Mint – Small leaves and mild flavor, excellent as a garnish for many cuisines. Our favorite mint variety!

Growth Habit

Mint is prone to spreading, so if you wish to contain it, be sure to plant in a pot! We prefer to have an edible landscape and heavily harvest the plant, so we do plant mint in-ground in several areas and let it spread.

1-2 mint plants is enough for most households to use for cooking and tea.

Cold Hardiness

Mint will die back in the fall/winter, but it survives Mt. Shasta winters just fine and will pop up again in spring.

Uses

Mint is the most popular herb in our household. We make tea, infuse it into water, add it to Chinese/Thai/Latin dishes, use it for seasoning dressings, mix it into herb salads, make mint ice cream, and more.
